When I grow Up I Want To Be......

B+, no not that horrible pop singer (or was that Vitamin C?!?) but B+ the photographer. When I was first developing my photographic style, I used to buy tons of magazines and newspapers looking for styles, composition and trends. Being a self-taught photographer up to that point, I most identified with one photographer who had a dirty, dark, blurry, almost sloppy style, and it was so good in my opinion! B+ (real name Brian Cross) shoots a lot of underground hip-hop bands (a subject I love to shoot!) and if you are a fan of Jurassic 5, Ozomatli, or Dilated Peoples, then you have seen his work. If not here are a few examples.




I love how real his photos are. Lighting rules (for that matter all rules) are right out the window. Shadows overpower most of his work and it's just like being in the photo. To me you get real sense of reality in his photos. I also love how this man just refuses to believe that an electronic flash should ever be used!
